The History of the NBA


The NBA was initially founded as the Basketball Association of America (BAA) in 1946,merging with the National Basketball League (NBL) in 1949 to form the NBA. The league has undergone many changes over the years, from the addition of teams to the establishment of iconic events like the NBA All-Star Game and NBA Finals. The NBA has grown from a small, regional league into a global sports entertainment phenomenon, with players like Michael Jordan,LeBron James , and Kobe Bryant becoming international superstars.
Throughout its history, the NBA has expanded, with teams now spread across two conferences: the Eastern Conference and the Western Conference.

The Eastern Conference

The Eastern Conference is made up of 15 teams, primarily based in the eastern part of the United States. It is known for its historical rivalries and intense competition. Some of the most successful teams in NBA history, such as theBoston Celtics and theChicago Bulls , belong to the Eastern Conference.

The Eastern Conference is divided into three divisions:
Atlantic Division
Central Division
Southeast Division


The Western Conference

The Western Conference also features 15 teams, based in the western part of North America. The teams in the Western Conference are often seen as a powerhouse group, with the Los Angeles Lakers and Golden State Warriors leading the way in terms of success in recent years.

The Western Conference is divided into three divisions:
Northwest Division
Pacific Division
Southwest Division


Each conference plays through a regular season, followed by the NBA Playoffs, where the best teams compete for a spot in the NBA Finals. The team that wins the NBA Finals is crowned the NBA Champion for that season.
